FIVE RHYMING RIDDLES

1)
I'm a word of five letters,
The source of life and love,
Transpose my first letter and make it my last,
I'm man's only home, future or past.
Re-instate the first letter, leaving the last intact,
I'm a word of six letters, no disputing the fact.
I begin and end with the very same letter,
To gather around me, some say there's nothing better.

2)
My first is a creature whose breeding's unclear,
My second a price some must pay;
My whole can be found in rivers and streams,
And refers to events of the day.

3)
On a dreary day
At the end of the play,
What does the director say?

4)
Thousands lay up gold within this house,
A house which no man made;
Spears beyond counting guard this place,
And he who enters must cover his face.

5)
Sometimes narrow, sometimes wide,
Through towns and hills and countryside;
In cities too, from house to house,
You call on me to get about.
I serve unfailing through thick and thin,
Yet am I never invited in.
It is my fate, like ocean tide,
To always live my life outside.
