FORE AND AFT

Each answer is a six-letter word that becomes a five-letter word when its last letter is removed, and a different five-letter word when its first letter is removed. Guess the six-letter words from the clues to the two five-letter words.

For example, given the clue words PUSH and WRETCHED HOME, the answer would be SHOVEL, SHOVE meaning push, and HOVEL meaning wretched home.
