THREE OLD RIDDLES
1)
A man of fourscore winters white
Sat dozing in his chair;
His frosted brow was quite my first,
With glorious silver hair.
My whole lay playing at his feet,
And a glance upward stole;
My second, I can wager you,
Was father of my whole.
2)
One thousand, two hundred,
Nothing and one,
Transposed, give a word
Expressive of fun.
3)
I welcome you home, I cross the wide sea,
I frighten the thief, and I grow on a tree.
