After several thousand years, we have advanced to the point where we bolt our doors and windows and turn on our burglar alarms - while the jungle natives sleep in open-doored huts.

It was ever thus
In Yale's rare-book and manuscript library is an Egyptian letter written in Arabic in the ninth century A.D. The message, in part, reads: "We are all well and hope your are the same. Why don't you write?"
