Retronyms [a new word created by Mr. McCoy - as far as I know] are words or phrases that are coined after a major change or technological leap has been made. They are used to describe something that up to then needed no description. But now, that thing has to be distinguished form the new version. For example, before the Internet and email, SNAIL MAIL was just MAIL. Use each of the following clues to discover a retronym.

1. Alaska and Hawaii
2. Proliferation of on-line shopping
3. Proliferation of fast-food places
4. High-tech television
5. Talkies
6. Electronic document
7. Pesticides

Answers:

2. Brick-and-mortar store
3. Sit-down restaurant
4. Black and white TV
5. Silent movies
6. Paper copy
7. Organic farming
