Think of two words or phrases that sound like two other words or phrases that form a familiar pair. For example, hied - hare (neither hide nor hair) or hart- sole (heart and soul). In the flat below,  the two cuewords (ONE and TWO), can be replaced by two such word.

I always use ONE in my stew.
For flavor, it's hard to outdo.
The meat in that meal
Could be beef, perhaps veal.
No preference - - - in my mind, they're
   TWO.

HINT:
ONE: An herb

Answers:

ONE: THYME
TWO: TIED - - - TIME AND TIDE (wait for no man.)
