Answers:
 
1. ABRI -  A rocky, cave-like mountain shelter
 
2. KULAK - A Russian peasant in the 19th century well-off enough to own property and employ others. They often exploited poorer villagers.
 
3. APERCU - A brief, illuminating, or entertaining comment 
 
4. FLANGE - A projecting rim, collar, or rib on an object, serving to attach or strengthen its attachment to something and maintain its position - as  a flange on a train wheel
 
5. SIROCCO - A hot wind, often dusty or rainy, blowing from North Africa across the Mediterranean Sea to southern Europe
 
6. CHINOOK - A warm, dry wind that blows down the east side of the Rocky Mountains at the end of winter / Also, a large North-Pacific salmon that is an important commercial food fish
