JERROLD SAYS SO

Jerrold Dolins wrote to Marilyn Vos Savant in her column "Ask Marilyn" in Parade Magazine, April 20, 2008:

"There are only two words in English that end with the letters:

CEL
LAD
SUM
TUE
UIT

I will give you one of each. Can you come up with the other?

PARCEL
UNCLAD
GYPSUM
VIRTUE
INTUIT

I found two other words that end with UIT, but other than that, I think Jerrold is right. The words are common and un-capitalized.

Answers:

Parcel and CANCEL
Unclad and BALLAD
Gypsum and OPOSSUM
Virtue and STATUE
Intuit and ACQUIT and PURSUIT
