FIVE RHYMING RIDDLES

1)
I am but a little letter,
Yet great messages may I bear;
If you take my tail,
You make an alteration to my lot:
Then you may truly say I'm shorter and I'm not.

2)
Tear one off and scratch my head,
What once was red is black instead.

3)
It has a tongue, but never talks,
It has no legs, but always walks.

4)
I'm made of wood and completely dead,
Encased in a wooden tomb;
Nevertheless, you cut off my head,
While I help your ideas to bloom.

5)
Shiny silver or sometimes white,
I stem the surge with all my might;
Burnished brass or even gold,
Take your choice - hot or cold.
I can also go the other way,
But now for my service you have to pay.
From morning light to night's return,
My life is full of twists and turns.
