The first to leave the Ark, never to return,
Sent forth by Noah, to go forth to and fro,
Followed by the dove,
The only living creatures ever to see the earth
Submerged in its watery grave;
We celebrate the dove, her return,
Bearing the olive leaf, the symbol of hope.
But what became of the first,
That lonely pilgrim searching for life?
