TWO RHYMING RIDDLES

1)
Born in October of 1945,
I never once uttered a baby's cry;
No parents, siblings, children, or spouse,
The family of man lives in my house.

2)
Though dead - it's true - we live for a while,
Bringing happiness, joy, harmony, and smiles;
We brighten the cottage, house, or hall,
Until we wither, fade, and fall.
Our purpose fulfilled, we're soon cast away,
Can you guess what we were when alive in our day?

Answers:

1. United Nations
2. Christmas trees
