LETTER SWAPPING I

The words in each pair below can swap a single letter to create two new words. For example, in the words LETTER and SWAPPING, the L and W can be traded to create WETTER  and SLAPPING. In RECENT and RAPIER, the C and P can be exchanged to make REPENT and RACIER.
