POINTS TO PONDER XXXIV
From Reader's Digest
Contributed by Mary K. Wanstreet
The local weather forecaster was predicting the big snow of the season, and the supermarket was crowded with customers braving sub-zero temperatures to stock up on supplies. Tempers ran short as the number of shopping carts diminished and the checkout lines grew longer, with as many as ten carts backed up in each line.
An elderly man several carts in front of me had only a couple of items, but waited without complaint through all the congestion. Then his turn to pay came and, as the cashier rang up his purchases, everyone nearby fell suddenly silent.
He had braved crowds and freezing weather for two large bags of birdseed.
