AWESOME FACTS ABOUT EVERYTHING VI
1. New Mexico and Arizona were the 47th and 48th states respectively - completing the contiguous United States. New Mexico became a state on January 6, 1912 and Arizona on February 14, 1912. Alaska became the 49th state on January 3, 1959, and Hawaii the 50th on August 21, 1959.
2. According to author and social historian Stephen Birmingham, at the time the Declaration of Independence was signed, over one-half the new nation was under 18 (excluding Native Americans).
3. Caesar's Palace, in Las Vegas, is one of the few hotels with a 13th floor so designated. However, presumably in deference to the Ides of March, this Roman-style hotel does not identify the 15th floor as such. There are no guest rooms on that floor, only a spa. [Julius Caesar was assassinated in Rome on the Ides of March.]
4. The Mousetrap is a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie. It opened in London's West End in 1952, and has been running continuously since then - until March 2020 when the stage performances had to be discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the longest continuously running play in the history of the theater - by far. The play has a twist ending, which the audience are traditionally asked not to reveal after leaving the theater.
