How many famous GIFTS can you think of from history, fiction, or myth?

(Possible) Answers:

1. Gold, frankincense, and myrrh - In the New Testament - the gifts given to Jesus at his birth by the Three Wise Men

2. The Statue of Liberty - a gift from the French people commemorating the alliance of France and the United States during the American Revolution. It bears the date July 4, 1776 - honoring the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

3. The Trojan Horse - a giant wooden horse - a  "gift" that was a subterfuge concealing Greek soldiers - allowing them to enter the city of Troy and win the war.

4. Hanging Gardens of Babylon - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - built by King Nebuchadnezzar for his wife Amytis. She was a princess from Media, a region of Iran near the Caspian Sea. Nebuchadnezzar is said to have built the gardens for her as a reminder of her homeland, which she missed.

5. Taj Mahal - India's "monument to love" - built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth of their fourteenth child.

6. Fire - In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole a lightning bolt from Zeus and gave it to mankind - giving man the gift of fire. For this action, Prometheus was cruelly punished.

7. Pocket watch chain and a set of combs - from the short story "The Gift of the Magi" by American writer O. Henry. Jim and Della are deeply in love, but have no money to buy each other Christmas gifts. Della sells her beautiful long hair to buy Jim a chain for his treasured  pocket watch.  Jim sells his pocket watch to buy Della a set of combs for her hair.
