GROUCHO
In this flat, an eight-letter word (WHOLE) is broken up into two component words, one of TWO letters and the other of SIX.
The jogger had taken a fall;
TWO felt quite embarrassed and small.
"With your WHOLE you were lax,
And you paid to the max.
But take SIX, man - you're not hurt
at all."
Answer:

HE felt quite embarrassed and small.
"With your SHOELACE you were lax,
And you paid to the max.
But take SOLACE, man - you're not hurt
at all."
