When comparing two things, we usually add ER to the describing word, adjusting for spelling: Tall - taller / Happy - happier. What happens to the words below when ER is added to them to make a comparative word? Wordplay is fair play.

SHY
HIGH
RANK
GOOD

HINT:
The answers are phonetic.

Answers:

Adding the ER sound to each word can create a new word that has nothing to do with the original word:

SHY - SHIRE
HIGH - HIRE
RANK - RANCOR
GOOD - BETTOR
