It was first sold on April 22, 1967 for 49 cents at Delligatti's McDonald's restaurant in Uniontown, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh). The Big Mac's 540 calories have dimmed its popularity, but in its heyday it was so wildly popular around the world that economists used it to compare the buying power of currencies.
