There's a story about Jascha Heifetz, the great Russian violinist.  After a concert, an admirer went to visit the soloist. "Mr.Heifetz," he gushed, "what a performance! Your violin has such a gorgeous tone!" Heifetz picked up his violin and held it to his ear. "I don't hear anything," he said.
