For example, if the clue "Mules"  appeared in the puzzle, the true clue might be either "Les" (removing Mu) or "Mewls" (homophone for mules). The answer is the answer to one of the altered words. In this case, the answer could be WHINES (mewls). One letter, correctly placed, is given as a hint for each answer.
