LA Times Crossword
August 6, 2023
Rafael Musa

Each of the almost familiar-sounding expressions below has the same, single thing wrong with it. What is that thing and what single word will explain it? The last clue is the puzzle title and a hint to that word.

1. Pea of Tranquility
2. I'm not really pure.
3. Plug repellent
4. Hammer and pickle
5. Pound judgment
6. Go without paying
7. DON'T MOVE

Answers:

The same, single thing that's wrong in all the clues is that the letter P has been used where an S should be. Correcting that error, the clues become:

1. Sea of Tranquility
2. I'm not really sure
3. Slug repellent
4. Hammer and Sickle
5. Sound judgement
6. Go without saying
7: The word that explains the error is STOP - parsed as S TO P, and meaning "Don't move."
