There is no humor in heaven.

Mark Twain

(JA) This seems like an odd quote from Mark Twain, an author celebrated for his humor. The full quote is more revealing:

Everything human is pathetic. The secret source of humor itself is not joy but sorrow. There is no humor in heaven.

Mark Twain

(JA) Twain suggests that humor is born out of human weakness, pain, irony, and the absurdities of mortal life. Humor comes from coping with suffering, disappointment, and tragedy.
