You will find me in seconds, minutes, months, and centuries,

But not in hours, days, years, or decades.

You hear me once,

Maybe twice or thrice;

Then I die,

'Till you call me again.

Gentle enough to soothe the skin,

Light enough to caress the sky;

Hard enough to crack rocks.

In the morning I appear to be at your feet.

All day I will follow, no matter how fast you run.

Yet I nearly perish in the midday sun.

I can hold up thousands of tons,

But not a tiny pebble.
