Often murmurs, but never talks;

Reaching stiffly for the sky,
I bear my fingers when it's cold;
In warmth I wear an emerald glove,
And in between I dress in gold.

One by one we fall as from heaven,
Marking time's march from past to present;
And our world, though ever upturned,
Spares no man---simple or learned.
