DUH XV

From Reader's Digest
Contributed by Herb Caen

Nineteen-year-old Jim Bakich of San Jose, CA, set some kind of record by revolving in a Ferris wheel for 337 1/2 hours. He had a phone in his gondola, and was asked if he received many calls. "Just from the crackpots," he said.

From Reader's Digest

At the height of the seesaw rage some years ago, contenders in Hayward, CA, broke the 172-hour teeter-totter record and then, still tottering, learned that the world's record was really 200 hours. So they decided to teeter on and pass the 200 mark. It was lucky they found out. "Otherwise," as a bystander observed, "they'd have quit too soon and it all would have been a waste of time."
